|Positive thought of December: reason and passion|
We often view reason and passion as opposing because we deem them to be incompatible due to the fact that they seem to be poles apart from each other… at least, at first sight. But is this really true?
Definitions of reason and passion
• Reason is the logic that enables us to analyze things, make decisions, remain in control of ourselves and rectify things, if need be.
• Passion is the opposite. It can be controlled but with difficulty. It is also hard to define. It causes us to experience emotions and moments of intense pleasure. It makes life exciting!
Some view reason and passion as incompatible and choose to sacrifice one of them. Whatever they may choose to sacrifice, they deprive themselves of a genuine opportunity to change, express their creativity and succeed in life!
The question we must ask ourselves is: should we consider these two characteristics of human nature as opposing, give priority to one of them at the expense of the other, try to get rid of one or the other?
The truth lies in a middle-way approach consisting in putting every characteristic of the human soul into practice with enthusiasm but also with reason. In this case, both the logic of reflection (reason) and passion should be mixed!
Let’s live with both passion and reason
Can we mix reason and passion and use them to change our life? Can they coexist in one person?
The answer is a resounding YES. Both can be used!
Admittedly, every human being must control their emotions but this does not mean that they cannot be fully expressed. You simply need to reach a balance between these two, which seem to be opposing at first sight and are often (wrongly) deemed to be incompatible.
They can be found in every human being. Therefore, there must be a reason for that because chance does not exist in nature. The key is to find what this reason is. To that end, there’s nothing better than action.
You simply need to give free rein to reason and passion at the right time: passion to be on fire and reason not to get burnt!
