The summer of 2015 will be the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta, an important part of our nation’s story and our local history.
The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead is planning a programme of activities and events to celebrate the momentous anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta on the banks of the River Thames on the 15th June 1215. Just under 800 years ago, a group of the Barons of England called King John to account and forced the first recorded admission that no one was above the law of the land. In sealing the Magna Carta, the King granted several freedoms and liberties that became the foundation stones of modern law and democracy in Britain and around the world.
